Igor Kononenko (also known as Ihor Vitaliiovych Kononenko) is a Ukrainian politician, businessman and philanthropist. He is the co-owner and founder of the 5th Element Sports Club which is one of the five largest fitness clubs in Europe. He is also the Honorary President of the All-Ukrainian Sports Bowling Federation.
He has been politically active for many years, serving as the deputy director of the student brigade’s city headquarters’ structural unit until 1991. He was then the deputy of the Kiev City Council deputy of the 5th and 6th Leonid Chernoveskyi block convocations until 2014. He was also the People’s Deputy on the Petro Poroshenko Bloc list.
Kononenko has been an active philanthropist through the years. He created the Igor Kononenko Charitable Fund in July 2018. The Fund has, to date, given more than $750,000 to the army, children, the disabled and those in financial need. He is the owner of Kyiv’s International Tennis Academy and plays an instrumental role in helping talented players to thrive in their chosen field.
Kononenko served in the Soviet Army for two years, receiving the Honorary Weapon – Fort-21.02 pistol with 15 Bullets Award in 2015.
